ABOUT:MS STICKY

MS STICKY is a aspiring hip-hop artist who covers many artists, even Tyler, the Creator. This is her rendition of his song 'Sticky'. She wanted to keep hip-hop aspects to her work, but make it more modern in the way of making it more movie-like.

For my music video, I wanted to show a powerful side of hip-hop that’s more about emotion and presence than flashy effects. I focused on creating a moody, stripped-back visual style to match the raw energy of the track. My aim was to reflect strength and confidence through subtle movements, eye contact, and a strong atmosphere. I wanted the audience to feel like they’re stepping into my world—even if just for a moment—and experience the attitude and intensity that hip-hop represents. It’s personal, bold, and unapologetic, and I’m really proud of how it turned out.
To achieve this, I used a variety of technical elements to build mood and meaning. I relied heavily on close-up shots and low angles to emphasize power and presence, allowing the audience to focus on facial expressions and body language. The use of dim, cool-toned lighting helped create a moody, urban feel that reflects common conventions of the hip-hop genre. I kept the mise-en-scène simple—dark clothing, minimal background, and intense eye contact—to let the performance stand out and highlight the emotional depth behind the lyrics. I also used slow motion and sharp cuts to create contrast between stillness and movement, which reflects tension and control. My editing pace was deliberately varied to match the rhythm of the music, creating a stronger connection between visuals and sound. Altogether, I wanted the technical elements to support the message that you don’t need big effects to make a big impact—sometimes simplicity can be just as powerful.
